Dr. Mathew Collins
Head of R&D
Matt is project manager at Safe As House Care and has a range of research experience across a number of fields. These were gained from his work on capital building projects and within third-sector, arts, and higher-education organisations.
He began his career as a researcher at the Royal Shakespeare Company, where he provided strategic and planning support for both capital and revenue campaigns. Matt then moved on to work as deputy head of the Data and Business Intelligence team at the University of Birmingham, responsible for the University’s research into philanthropic and corporate funders. More recently, he managed the Gift Management and Settlement team at the University of Cambridge and led a policies and procedures review of the University’s development activity.
Matt has a keen interest how data information can better inform operational behaviour and in the cutting-edge tools and techniques that improve insight, organisational strategy, and participation. These interests led him to undertake research fellowships at Birmingham and Warwick Universities, and resulted a PhD that examines how data can illuminate the way in which stories are told and that developed digital tools to enable such insights and broaden opportunities for young readers to engage with classic texts.
Beyond the office, Matt is an enthusiastic volunteer, having been recently appointed Trustee to a charitable foundation that helps socially and economically disadvantaged communities in the midlands. He continues to support various local amateur arts organisations and provides pro-bono consultancy to charities that include those working within the financial sector, education, and the criminal justice system.
